Cover-ups & restoration

A new life for an
old tattoo

A faded, poorly done or simply outgrown tattoo doesn’t have to stay with you forever. We cover it with a new piece of art or restore its original shine.

Cover-up tattoo

What is a cover-up and who is it for?

A cover-up means covering an existing tattoo with a new design so that the old work blends into the new one and no longer stands out. Restoration refreshes faded lines and colours and fixes uneven work while keeping the original idea.

A cover-up is a good option when:

  • the tattoo has faded or blurred over time;
  • the design no longer matches your taste or life;
  • the original work was done poorly;
  • you want to turn a small tattoo into a larger, more complete composition.

What you should know

Not every tattoo can be covered with any design. Dark and dense old work usually needs a larger and darker new design; light tones won’t cover black ink. Sometimes it makes sense to lighten the old tattoo with a few laser sessions first — we will tell you honestly during the consultation.

How it works

Cover-up in four steps

Every cover-up is an individual project.

01

Photo & consultation

Send us a clear photo of the old tattoo and describe what you want. We assess the size, darkness and skin.

02

New design

Your artist creates a design that takes the old work into account and uses its lines and shading.

03

Tattooing

The work is done in one or several sessions with sterile, single-use equipment.

04

Healing

Follow the aftercare guide; if needed, we do a touch-up after healing.

Restoration

Refresh a faded tattoo

Sun, time and poor aftercare make lines blurry and colours pale. During restoration we strengthen the outlines, add shading and colour and, if needed, extend the composition so the piece looks fresh again.

FAQ

Cover-up questions

The most common questions about covering an old tattoo.

Most tattoos can be covered, but the new design usually has to be larger and darker than the old one. For very dark or heavy work, a few laser sessions beforehand may be recommended.

The pain is similar to a regular tattoo and depends more on the body area than on whether it is a cover-up.

The price depends on size, detail and the number of sessions. Send us a photo of your old tattoo and we will give you an estimate.

Yes, we restore and rework tattoos made elsewhere too.
