Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
Proper care is essential for a beautiful, long-lasting result. Please follow our expert guidelines carefully.
The First Hours
Leave the protective film on for the time specified by your artist. Wash gently with warm water and antibacterial soap.
Moisturizing & Healing
Apply a very thin layer of recommended tattoo ointment (like Bepanthen Plus) 2-3 times a day. Never let the tattoo dry out completely.
What to Avoid
No swimming, saunas, direct sunlight, or tight clothing for at least 2 weeks. Do NOT scratch or pick at scabs.
Step by step
How a new tattoo heals
The first 24 hours
Remove the wrap or bandage when your artist told you to. Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and fragrance-free antibacterial soap, then pat dry with a clean paper towel — don’t rub.
Days 2–7
Apply a thin layer of healing ointment (for example Bepanthen Plus) 2–3 times a day. A thick layer stops the skin from breathing. Wear clean, loose clothing that doesn’t rub the tattoo.
Days 7–14
The skin starts to peel and may itch — that’s normal. Don’t scratch or pick the flakes, because pigment can come off with them. Keep moisturising.
After 2–4 weeks
The top layer of skin has healed; the deeper layers keep recovering for about a month. Protect the tattoo from the sun with high-SPF sunscreen to keep colours bright for longer.
Avoid for at least 2 weeks
- swimming pools, saunas, baths and open water;
- direct sun and tanning beds;
- tight clothing and friction;
- scratching the tattoo or removing scabs.
